International Walk, Bike, and Roll to School Day (“iWalk”) is THURSDAY, Oct. 9!

Lace up those shoes and pump up those bike tires…it’s time to promote active transportation by walking, biking, or rolling to school! Globally, schools are scheduled to participate in iWalk the 3 mornings per year.

Be part of the International Walk, Bike & Roll to School Day on Wednesday, October 8!

What to Expect:

  • Wake up a bit early to walk, bike, or scooter your way to school

  • Bikes and scooters may be stored indoors (no locks needed). Bring them to the cafeteria door at the back entrance where a volunteer will tag them for the student. Participants may collect their bikes/scooters at the end of the school day; afterschool students can reclaim their bikes/scooters when they leave the school.

  • At the school, participating students should check in at the "tally table", telling volunteers which class/teacher they have and grabbing a participation sticker, if interested.
The tallies will be added up to determine which class had the highest percentage of student participation (this enables small classes to "compete" with large classes)
The class with the highest percentage of students participating and "checking in" to the tally table will receive the Golden Shoe Award

  • Bus students may participate by opting for the early dropoff, which stops at Congress St. & Willis Ave., a 7-minute walk from Missituk. Volunteers will greet the bus students and accompany them on the walk to the school.

  • Students may mark their travel routes on a large map in the playground area in the morning

  • Enjoy the extra energy and focus you have from being outside and moving early in the morning!

Tips for Participating:

  • Encourage classmates to participate

  • Wear a helmet if biking or riding a scooter!

  • Pump up those bike/scooter tires ahead of time

  • Plan your walk/ride route ahead of time (see map for suggested routes from some neighborhoods: https://tinyurl.com/4banvsyp)

  • Join a walking group or bike bus
So far, we have a volunteer to lead students leaving the Dame School (80 George St.) on bikes/scooters ~7:55 am
Bikes/scooter group, with leader, will pick up any additional participants at Tufts Park ~8:05 am

  • Caregivers, consider volunteering to lead kids in your neighborhood with a walk or roll group: https://volunteersignup.org/RRQWL

  • If you live further from the school and need to drive, consider parking at Tufts Park and walking the rest of the way to school (~10 minute walk)

Please email Michelle.L.Blouin@gmail.com with any questions, any suggested routes not covered in the map, or any interest in leading a walk/roll group to school.

Parents, please sign up to volunteer just 30 minutes in the morning:
